The FG42 or Fallschirmjägergewehr 42 was a light support weapon used by German paratroopers during World War II. It could be fired full automatic or semi automatic. This weapon was produced on the request for a weapon to replace the bolt action rifles many paratroopers were equipped with. The rifle came equipped with a rail that could be used to mount a scope. The box magazines the were used in the rifle were either of 10 or 20 round variations. This weapon was not produced in great numbers, making it quite rare.

In Call of Duty: World at War, the FG42 has a very high rate of fire. That combined with relatively small magazines makes it difficult to suppress enemies for too long without reloading. The damage is relatively high if you keep your fire controlled and accurate, you won't kill many people that are far off by spraying bullets at them. It is recommended that you fire in short bursts of 2-3 bullets to conserve the ammo in the small clips as well as to keep you accurate at long range. The scope can be used effectively at medium and even long ranges provided that you control your fire well. Up close you can pretty much spray and pray but try to keep as many of your bullets on the enemy.
