The M16 is an assault rifle manufactured by Armalite. It appears in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as the M16A4, the latest variant, which also appears in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The M16 is also featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops as the M16, modelled after the M16A2 which is the Vietnam-era model. The M16A4 is also confirmed to appear in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Most real M16s are selective fire; however, in CoD the gun usually fires in three round bursts, with the exception of Black Ops Campaign Mode, which features a fully automatic M16.
Overall it is very effective at medium to long range although its burst fire somewhat limits its performance in close quarters engagements. Players often favour the very similar FAMAS which appears in Modern Warfare 2 due to it's slightly faster reload time. However, the stats are otherwise very similar. In Call of Duty 4 and Black Ops, the M16 is the only three round burst weapon. The FAMAS also appears in Black Ops, but in that game it is fully automatic, and so not a direct competitor to the M16.

The gun fires at 937.5 RPM and can be reloaded from empty in 2.36 seconds (2.03 seconds if non empty).
